We went to the shooting range today to shoot my new Kel-Tec 380. Read about it below and enjoy a shooting range video below.
My Beloved Curmudgeon accidentally bought me a Kel-Tec 380 (pictured above). You might wonder how one ‘accidentally’ buys a handgun. If you did, that would be a good question! I wondered the exact same thing. He explained it to me and sadly, I kinda-sorta understood his explanation. That’s when I knew I’d drank Beloved Curmudgeon’s koolaide. The fact that I kinda-sorta understood how he’d accidentally bought a gun says it all.
I’m sure that the fact that he’d bought ‘my’ gun just before he was able to get the much harder to find 380 Ruger, which happened to be the gun he really wanted, is irrelevant. The two guns are virtually identical except the Ruger is all black and just a tad sleeker and a step or two up the quality ladder.
When he gave me my gift and explained how he’d accidentally gotten two almost identical guns, I told him I wanted the Ruger. Its prettier. He said no, that he’d bought me the Kel-tec. I wanted the Ruger. He insisted the Kel-tec was mine. I really didn’t care, I just liked making him squirm. He gave me the Kel-tec.
So today we went out for him to teach me how to shoot the Kel-tec 380. When he gave it to me the other day, the told me how it was small, which is just my size, and easy to conceal. Groovy. What I didn’t learn until today is that the smaller gun has a bigger kick. He didn’t tell me that until we were driving home and my thumb was aching and blistered.
He was proud of me though. He said I did well quickly. However, the first shot came immediately after him making me load the magazine, pull back the slide (which wasn’t easy). He was talking to me, so I had the ear things off my ears when I shot that first shot. Anyone who has ever done that knows that you’ll only do that once. It was his fault for talking to me.
The other thing was that the way my hand fit around the grip meant that when it kicked back it hit my knuckle. He kept trying to adjust my hand on the grip seeing as there was a blister coming up. But my hand kept naturally going around the grip back to where my thumb was right where it kicked back.
A guy next to us brought over a cool revolver and let me shoot that. It was pretty cool and didn’t kick back as hard. Regardless, by the time we left I was able to fire off six shots in rapid concession and hit the target. The gun was smoking.
Beloved Curmudgeon was impressed. At least he said he was. Then again, encouraging and praising me would be in his best interest considering how he accidentally bought the gun.

Your hubby sounds a lot like mine ( except yours is still breathing ). I think you should go buy him an accidental pink jag :-p
I miss going to the range….or just out in the middle of nowhere and assuring myself I can still hit the target !
