The Presidents Club January 2009

Living Presidents generally get together for a photo op similar to the one below. We have these kinds of photos made during the administrations of all the modern era presidents. Its kind of cool. But don’t you think this picture taken today says a lot? See the photos a the video below.

President’s Club 2009

You know what they say about a picture saying a 1,000 words. These pictures of the living American Presidents might have 10,000 words to say.

The Presidents met at the White House today for this photo op. They did lunch and talked about how much they support America rather than a particular party. President Bush was generous in his praise of Obama and told him … and the press … that we WANT him to succeed because we love our country. Well said, Mr. Bush.

President elect Obama waxed on about how much he is learning from his predecessors … blah, blah, blah. All diplomats. All politics. All about a show of unity for the cameras.

But cameras don’t lie. They cut through the verbiage of the politicians. When looking at these photos, do you see one that doesn’t fit? It reminds me of the Sesame Street song about ‘Which one of these don’t fit with the others?’.

I’ve seen this misfit before, in other photos taken with other former Presidents. It seems to always happen. They all lean away from him. He always seems a step or two at a distance, not quite one of them. Or maybe he’s said too much and alienated his small handful of peers. Maybe his second guessing and interference in public and foreign affairs has gotten old to the other Presidents.

From Andrew Malcolm:

A psychiatrist friend once told us he always had new patients bring in a photo of their family, that he could tell a lot about relationships from that one moment captured in a picture. He said with virtually all such group photos there was one member visibly on the outside.

Look at the photos, watch the video below. Its pretty easy to see which one doesn’t fit with the others.

Of course, in fairness, he’s got two Bushes and two Clintons in the photo.

If he’s uncomfortable with Southerners, that’s his own issues and biases. The stereotypes of Southerners are just not true – but that doesn’t keep the rest of the country from looking at the South as though they are superior of everyone living in the South. Truthfully, the South dealt with racial issues a LONG time before the rest of the country did. You’ll find a lot more prejudice in other parts of the country.
