The stereotypes of Southerners are just not true - but that doesn't keep the rest of the country from looking at the South as though they are superior of everyone living in the South. Truthfully, the South dealt with racial issues a LONG time before the rest of the country did. You'll find a lot more prejudice in other parts of the country. If he’s uncomfortable with Southerners, that’s his own issues and biases.
