24 Season 7 premiered tonight with the first two hours of the long, eventful, violent 24 hour day that Jack Bauer has to deal with every season of the show. Within the first hour, Tony Almeida was back. Read about it below and see a video.

Jack Bauer

Jack’s Back!

So were you as surprised as Jack Bauer to see Tony Almeida in the premier of season 7 of 24? I was. I thought it might be his evil twin or something at first. But you might remember, that killing him off in season 5 did leave the possibility of his return open. I didn’t think of it at the time, but in retrospect it did.

I made several observations from tonight’s premiere. The first thing I noticed was that Jack went for an entire two hours without killing or maiming anyone. He didn’t even torture anyone, although I thought he was fixing to stick a pencil through the Scottish guy’s eardrum - but Almeida shot the Scotsman before Jack had a chance to torture him.

Another thing I noticed was the Chloe wasn’t on there at all for the first two hours. That’s completely unacceptable. And PLEASE, Janeane Garofalo??? Why is she there and why has Jack not tortured her yet? Maybe she’s there to further her stated belief that the government planned and executed the attacks of 9/11. Or maybe she’s the FBI informant. Or maybe she can’t find another job and took a job with the violent ‘the U.S. are the good guys’ show for the money, tossing her radical leftist belief system to the winds. Who knows? Who cares? I wish I didn’t have to see her to watch the show. Get crazy Chloe back and get Janeane off. That’s all.

So what about Tony Almeida. Even though he appears to have gone over to the dark side and is helping terrorists, I strongly suspect there will be a surprise down the line somewhere before the day is done. As Bauer said, its not like him, there’s something else going on. Is he a bad guy now? Is he a good guy infiltrating the bad guys? Is he working for another agency? What? What is going on?

The premiere continues with two more hours tomorrow night. I have to suspect that by the end of the second two hours, we will see Jack do a little more violence than we have seen so far. I also suspect that he will have converted his new little FBI friend over to his way of thinking. FBI agent Annie Wersching has reminded Jack half a dozen times in the first two hours that the FBI has to work within the law … unlike Jack. I’m betting before its all over she’ll be seeing it Jack’s way. After all, as he told her towards the end of the second hour, they tried it her way, now they are going to try it his way.

More tomorrow ……..
