The two videos below are from Sunday nights Dateline NBC investigation into what happened to Patrick McDermott. You might remember that he was the boyfriend of pop star Olivia Newton-John. He went on a fishing trip off the coast of San Pedro, California on June 30, 2005 and disappeared. He was 48-years-old at the time and was aboard the ‘Freedom’ at the time of his disappearance.

There has been speculation that he might have jumped overboard, fallen to his death or faked his death to escape financial problems. McDermott had filed for bankruptcy previously and had been court ordered to pay overdue child support to his former wife, actress Yvette Niper.

There were 25 passengers and crew on the chartered fishing boat at the time and they gave conflicting reports about whether or not he had even been seen on the boat. Apparently, no one noticed he was missing until he failed to attend a family gathering on July 6th.

Searches by the Coast Guard and investigations have never turned up any evidence to explain his disappearance. Olivia Newton-John denies knowing anything other than that he is gone. Some people have reported seeing him in Mexico, but those claims have never been verified.
