Ingmar Guandique is now in prison, serving a ten-year sentence for one count of second-degree burglary and two counts of assaulting women in Rock Creek Park in separate incidents in 2001. Chandra Levy, a beautiful Washington DC intern, disappeared in May 2001. Police are now saying charges of murder are imminent against Guandique. Read more and see photos and a video below.

Chandra Levy

Chandra Levy was born April 14, 1977 in Cleveland, Ohio to Robert and Susan Levy. She was 24 when she went missing March 1, 2001. Raised in Modesto ,California, Chandra received a journalism degree from San Francisco State University. While attending the University of Southern California to obtain her Masters in Public Administration, she moved to Washington to become an intern at the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Ingmar Guandique, born El Salvador on August 21, 1981, is an illegal alien. When arrested for breaking and entering a week before Levy’s disappearance, it was noted he had no Social Security number and refused to tell police the name of any “family, relatives, friends or associates.” He would have been eligible to apply for legal status but refused to give his fingerprints.

Since the end of last summer, D.C. detectives and prosecutors have been building a case against Guandique, who attacked two women at knifepoint in Rock Creek Park around the time of Levy’s disappearance in May 2001. Guandique, 27, was convicted in those attacks and is serving a 10-year sentence in federal prison in California. He has denied any involvement in Levy’s death.

If you recall, Chandra (often spelled Sandra Levy) was reported missing by her parents on May 6, 2001. They had not heard from her in 5 days and contacted the DC police, as well as their local Representative Gary Condit, (D) in California.

On about May 16, an email alleged to have been written by Chandra in December 2000, talks about an unidentified romantic interest with ties to Congress. Speculation soon led to Gary Condit, who denied any involvement, while stating she was a wonderful person and great friend.

As the rush to judgment continued, with most fingers pointing at Condit having some involvement with Levy’s disappearance, he agreed to the FBI searching his home and apartment on July 10, 2001. Two days later Condit took a polygraph test arranged by his lawyer and passed. On August 23, Condit did his first interview and officially denied any and all involvement in Chandra Levy’s vanishing. He had acknowledged a romantic involvement with her, though.

On November 15, 2001 a Washington grand jury subpoenaed Condit’s telephone message slips, calendars and other documents, proving nothing, yet whetting our appetite for more salacious details. In March 2002, his reputation severely tarnished, Gary Condit lost his bid for re-election.

In May 2002 dental records confirmed remains found in Washington park were Levy’s …. yet there was still no official suspect.

Now it turns out that Ingmar Guandique, the illegal alien, was a suspect but never charged. For years police have known that a cellmate claimed that Ingmar admitted to the murder of Chandra Levy, yet discarded the info. Now with his parole coming up, police have taken a second look and feel they have enough evidence to charge Ingmar Guandique with murder. Let’s hope they are right.
