Vincent LeCompte, 44-years-old, has been free on a $50,000 bond since June 28,2006. He had been charged with raping his then 6-year-old granddaughter. The sex abuse came to light when the little girl’s therapist informed her father, with whom she had been living at the time.

In this time of uber liberalism/anything goes/coddle the criminal/intimidate the victim, not much shocks me anymore. The sentence in this case did. I reread it several times, thinking I must have missed something, but nope …. the admitted rapist of this child received a 20 (twenty) year sentence …. SUSPENDED!!!!!

“We feel that justice has been served — the defendant admitted what he did and will serve under very, very stringent rules and conditions of probation,” Adair County Assistant District Attorney Shannon Otteson said. “There are restrictions where he can live, work and who he can be around for 20 years. He is required to go to sex offender treatment.”

“For her, it’s like being raped all over again — which was a huge consideration for us,” Otteson said. “She has to be our concern.”

So this is all it takes to get away with a horrific crime … postpone the trial, then show up and plead guilty while looking remorseful and dejected? Then one can literally just walk away?

The little girls mother had this to say:

The mother of the victim read a victim impact statement and told the court her daughter was the brunt of “this sick individual’s abuse. Vincent LeCompte stole my daughter’s innocence, her childhood and her trust. He took advantage of her, and she will have to deal with this the rest of her life.”

In the statement, the mother said she would go into detail, but it would make the court sick.

“Mentally, she has developed problems due to the trauma she was put through. In her mind, she knows that he will one day try to hurt her again,” the statement says. “Emotionally, she has been drained by having to talk to so many people, even having to face him. To identify him devastated her — she even freaks out at school — she thinks he is coming after her.”

The mother said her daughter sees a counselor every week to help her try to deal with the tragedy LeCompte bestowed in her life.

She told the judge LeCompte thought he would not be punished hard for what he did.

“He deserves more than what he is getting here today — but he will reap what he sowed. May God have mercy upon this sad man, and I can only pray he never hurts anyone else again.”

She said if it weren’t for the victim being a minor who has already been traumatized, “we would seek imprisonment for this sick man — without question.”

This child has had to face her rapist and testify 3 times during the past few years. Vincent LeCompte’s defense made it impossible for her to even begin the healing process, victimizing her further … because, after all, its about getting the most lenient sentence for your client, not the welfare of a fragile, sweet and innocent 6 year old. Apparently his right to not have to pay for his crimes or be punished supersedes this precious girl’s right to justice.

What has happened to personal accountability?

Was there no one in Oklahoma that could have a little sit-down come-to-Jesus talk with Vincent Martin LeCompte?

Does anyone out there honestly think that LeCompte will not re-offend? Can any of you imagine what it must be like for this child, knowing her abuser/rapist is a free man? Admit it … as an adult, if it were you, you would be afraid, very afraid. She is only 9 now!

I always thought judges could over-ride sentencing agreements if in the best interest of the victim or society. What happened in Muskogee, Oklahoma? Shame on your DA, your Judge, and your defense attorney!

Where the hell are Bill O’Reilly, Greta Van Susteren and Nancy Grace? Seems to me that the only time justice for children is meted out, one of those three have been the catalyst. Our nation is involved in all kinds of *wars* … why not an all out war on predators and child abusers?

Your thoughts?
