Barack Obama appeared on The Jay Leno Show tonight as part of his dog and pony show to sale his stimulus package to the American public. He managed to insult the developmentally disabled, the Special Olympics and deny he knew about the AIG bonuses (after it being revealed he did know earlier) during the program. Read about it below along with photos, the video and a transcript.
Nero fiddled while Rome burned and Obama is joking while swallowing Americans in debt and new layers upon layers of government bureaucracy. Our President appeared on the Jay Leno Show earlier tonight and did what he does best. He told endearing stories about his wife and daughters, talked about how cool it is to fly in Air Force One and generally joked around on a comedy show. Our President. On a comedy show. Well, he is the showbiz president, the Celebrity in Chief. I guess that makes it appropriate.
The apparent purpose of Obama’s two day trip to California is to sale his stimulus package to the American public. Its not been going over very well and there’s been a public outcry at the dirty politics and outrageous disregard for the good of the Republic evidenced in the first two months of this presidency. So the front man has been sent out to do what he does best. Sale the product. That product being the stimulus package stuffed full of pork, special projects and already outdated by another attempt to print more money to throw down the bottomless pit of debt we have been tied to.
While in California, he and his teleprompter made a stop at a California country fair where he criticized Washington politics and painted himself as an Washington outsider. Contrary to his well documented hosting of Washington insiders while he and Michelle Obama are in Washington, the ultimate Washington insiders. Confusing? Of course it is. Its confusing because the message changes according to the audience and whatever serves the purpose of the moment. Fasten your seat belts, the conflicting messages have only just begun.
Jay Leno gave Obama his entire hour tonight, of course. No one can blame Leno for that. What a coup for him. And, considering how loquacious Obama is, it would take 50 minutes. Unfortunately, its live and Obama’s gaffs are a little hard to hide in that kind of forum. He made some doozies, but of course, few care about his gaffs. He IS The One and people over look what they don’t want to think about or what doesn’t fit the image they project onto the blank slate that IS Obama.
Obama insulted the developmentally disabled and the Special Olympics while he was trying to be funny at their expense. A crime no one else could dare to try to get away with.
MR. LENO: Now, are they going to put a basketball –- I imagine the bowling alley has been just burned and closed down.
MR. OBAMA: No, no. I have been practicing all –- (laughter.)
MR. LENO: Really? Really?
MR. OBAMA: I bowled a 129. (Laughter and applause.)
MR. LENO: No, that’s very good. Yes. That’s very good, Mr. President.
MR. OBAMA: It’s like — it was like Special Olympics, or something. (Laughter.)
Ouch. That’s brutal.
The White House has not responded to requests for a comment on his comments.

You people are so mean to President Obama. He is doing the best he can. He just started. Give him a chance.

don’t be haters.

This is making a big deal out of nothing. The comment was a little insensitive, but nothing to make such a big deal out of. He’s got more important things to worry about than getting pounced on over a little statement here and there.

The media use to comment on how Cheney was Bush’s brain. I guess the teleprompter is Obama’s.

Nothing is more ridiculous than Republican’s complaining about Obama appearing on the Tonight Show. I can understand why – they fear Obama will reach the average person and that is the last thing Republican’s want. Republican’s want democracy to stay in the Washington bubble where they think they have more control and continue to pass laws that favor the rich who in turn feed the Republican campaign machine with donations. For Obama to think outside of the box speaks well of a man who was elected by the people (not wall street, lobbyists and the rich that Republican’s represent). What are the Republican’s afraid of? They are so out of touch that maybe instead of spending their time complaining, whining and trying to change the tax laws to favor the wealthiest Americans, maybe they should spend less time complaining and actually learning how to communicate to hard working Americans who are still the vast majority.
Sorry, Republican’s, most of us work 12 hour days, 6 days a week (not 4) and if lucky we may get a week vacation (not months) at wages that is probably less than what you pay your servants or waste our tax dollars on for your pet peeve projects. After a 12 hour day, the last thing we want to do is listen to O’Reily spin on politics, Hannity whining like a soar loser or even listen to you on CNN making noise. We come home, want to turn on something that isn’t so depressing to watch, yet is both entertaining and informative (like Tonight Show) that doesn’t have an agenda to promote their political views. Like I said, it tells hard working Americans’ how out of touch Republicans are about what makes us tick and what it takes to survive in a country destroyed by Bush politics

Jack - you’re delusional if you think that Obama wasn’t elected by special interests, unions and big monies. The wealthiest elected him and he is one of the Effete Elite.
Why do you think he’s frantically passing legislation, expanding government and printing money. He’s got a lot of campaign debts to pay off.

IF a Republican politician in Cayuga, Indiana had said that very same thing. We would be witnessing cameras from the Big 3 Networks staged outside their home. Kick it up to a Republican of National stature and we would see a crucifixion. We got some and have had some lousy Republicans. It is time for yuo Dems to stop being blindly defensive. You got your share too. Its’ okay to say they are bad…it won’t hurt …go on try it. If you had given me something other than Cary or Gore I would not have had to vote for Bush. Obama makes me miss them now. On the job training is painful to watch. Oh yes…and his Biden still alive?
