Carrie Prejean is Miss California. She didn’t win the Miss USA pageant last night, but she created such a controversy over her answer to a question on gay marriage that she’s all anyone is talking about today. It all started when celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton asked her a controversial question during the competition. It went downhill from there. Read about it below, see lots of pictures of Ms. Prejean and a video of her run in with Perez.
The last thing anyone expects at a Miss USA pageant is controversy. The most you might hope for is that someone will have a wardrobe malfunction or something of the sort. These beauty pageants are for beautiful women to strut around in swimsuits with high heels and lipstick on. That’s what they are for.
Usually, the ‘tough’ questions have to do with asking a contestants what she’ll do about world hunger should she win the contest. The expected answer is that she’ll spend her year traveling the world doing good as a proud and beautiful representative of the United States. We then promptly forget them and they do whatever it is they do after they win, wearing a tiara and perfect manicure at all times.
Then someone thought it was a good idea to put the controversial and gay celebrity blogger Perez Hilton on the judges panel. He, not surprisingly, decided to ask one of ‘those’ questions that aren’t supposed to be asked of beautiful women on stage with high heels, lipstick, perfect coifs and bodies to die for. Here’s the exchange between Carrie Prejean, Miss California and the judge, Perez Hilton.
PEREZ: Vermont recently became the fourth state to legalize same-sex marriage. Do you think every state should follow suit? Why or why not?
CARRIE: I think it’s great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. We live in a land that you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage and, you know what, in my country and my family I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anyone out there but that’s how I was raised and that’s how I think it should be between a man and a woman.
She clearly came down on the side of “opposite marriage,” basically saying “no offense but your lifestyle isn’t valid.” I’m guessing Perez didn’t give her his vote, but Carrie still managed to finish as first runner up in the pageant.
I actually thought she did well, considering it was a beauty pageant and not a presidential debate. I mean, what was she supposed to say? Well … Perez didn’t like her answer AT ALL. In fact, today on his blog, in a video blog, he called her a ‘dumb bitch’.
Apparently, the pageant people were not happy with him injecting serious, controversial issues into the pageant either. There was some nastiness backstage between Hilton and the pageant organizers. Leftist bloggers are gunning for Miss California. People who otherwise didn’t even know there was a beauty pageant last night are acting as though this 21-year-old blond California beauty is the final authority on gay rights in the United States.
A couple of things happened in the whole Miss California gay marriage controversy. The Miss USA pageant has gotten at least three times the publicity it usually gets. Perez Hilton’s blog has probably gotten at least twice his usual traffic. Everybody is talking about Carrie Prejean, even though she came in first runner up and didn’t win. And hardly anyone knows who actually did win.
So who won Miss USA last night? Miss North Carolina, Kristen Dalton was named Miss USA 2009.
There you have it.

Response to Marianne…Post #13
Cheney, Clinton, Obama, what do they have in common with Prejean? They all made the same public statement as Carrie Prejean during president obama binladens presidential campaign.
Just because an individual answers a question that was asked in a public forum and the answer does not please those listening, does NOT make that individual a bigot, it makes them honest, open and true to their beliefs.
I guess you must be one of those liberals that seems to think everyone must think as you.

When did this country lose it’s voice … our freedom of speech? Why is it that when someone has a true belief or opinion about something, that someone feels they have the right to quash that belief? We are all created “equal” - and not everyone believes that the introduction of gay marriage is such a good thing, no matter how “modern” we have become. However, that’s not even the point to be argued here … the point is, Miss Cali had an opinion and I’m proud of her for standing up for HER own beliefs, instead of covering up her true feelings and being a major KISS ASS like the judges somehow expected her to be - there was NOTHING wrong with how she answered the question and if people were offended by it, too frikkin bad. I’m offended by stuff people say every day … but I’ll be damned if I’ll tell them they had no right to say those offensive things!!!! THIS IS AMERICA! Let’s break away from this COMMUNISTIC suppression of our free speech that we need to continue to PROTECT TO THE DEATH!

Perez Hilton is a hypocrite — of course the question was about personal belief, just look at how he’s reacting

That so-called judge Perez Hilton (or whatever his real name is) had no business judging a women’s beauty pageant.
He had the audacity to call Ms. Prejean a “dumb bit–” and then has the nerve to criticize HER? Who’s really the dumb one? I hope Prejean sues and wins big time!!

THERE IS MY OPINION, AND THERE IS YOUR OPINION, AND THERE IS WHAT GOD SAID. GOD SAID THAT HOMOSEXUALITY IS AN ABOMINATION.

Perez only wanted to use the show to advance the gay agenda, intimidating us all into accepting that lifestyle.
He expected to hear from the lips of one of the most attractive people in America that “Gays are OK.”
Well, that gamble backfired, big time…
California has had plenty of years to assess the overall effect of gay culture in their area, and with Prop 8, they’ve spoken.
Gays need to be exposed as the deviant and abnormal people they are, and get treatment. Just like they do for people sexually interested in animals, children, the dead, whatever.
Perez is the kind of creature that repeatedly puts things in his mouth that have been in his own, other men’s azzes. He insists that this makes perfect sense…

I can’t believe all the gay-bashing that I am reading. Gay people put a hold the population? I thought everyone has been worried about the OVER-population.
Maybe these beauty queens are not able to deal with REAL questions. We know they are not going to follow up with anything. They are just political ornaments.
I agree that Perez went a little far, with bashing her, for her opinion. He did go out-of-profession with what he called her, afterwards.
I read that these queens study, what is to be at these pageants. They also study the questions and etc…
They don’t know what they’ll be asked? That’s b/s ’cause WE already know. LOL They have their prepared answers and that a surprise ‘gay question’ comes along. The answer is: You answer whatever will get a vote from that judge.
