Bristol Palin has been named an ambassador for The Candie’s Foundation. She will attend town hall meetings and the National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy to help educate and encourage youth to make healthy choices about sex. The Candie’s Foundation describes itself as “a celebrity-driven public service announcement campaign that dramatically exposes the devastating consequences of teenage pregnancy, while educating and challenging America’s youth to make healthy decisions about sex.” As such, it seems entirely appropriate that they would choose to name Bristol Palin one of their teen ambassadors.

As everyone undoubtedly knows, Bristol Palin is the oldest daughter of Alaskan Governor and former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin. Bristol was the target of some pretty nasty attacks during the presidential campaign as she was pregnant and not married at the time. She has since given birth to her son, Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston, and broken up with her child’s father, Levi Johnston. All of this has been fodder for tabloids and attacks on the Palin family in general. However, since Bristol turned 18-years-old recently, she has stepped out on her own to speak out about teen pregnancy.

Bristol will participate in a National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy town hall meeting in New York on Wednesday, May 6th. She be on a panel that will include Hayden Panettiere as another teen ambassador, Ann Shoket, the editor of Seventeen magazine and Chris Cuomo of Good Morning America.

“I feel that I could be a living example of the consequences of teen pregnancy.” Palin said in a statement. “If I can prevent even one girl from getting pregnant, I will feel a sense of accomplishment.”
