President Obama and the democrats became conservatives for a day when the House of Representatives approved the Weapons Acquisition Overhaul Bill 411-0, and President Obama signed it into law. The measure is designed to curb wasteful spending at the Pentagon.

On the South Lawn of the White House, President Barack Obama signed the Weapons Acquisition Bill and then began to wax eloquent about the need to stop wasting taxpayer money on needless defense spending. Too bad the President doesn’t feel the same way about other parts of his budget.

Of course Obama said he would do whatever it takes to ensure the safety of this country, but that we don’t have to overspend by billions to do it. I agree, but I think we can also climb our way out of this recession and economic crisis without overspending billions as well; but that isn’t going to happen.

There isn’t going to be a Entitlement Acquisition Bill anytime in the foreseeable future; Social Security, Medicare, Welfare, and thousands of nameless special interest groups will continue to receive funds from you and me. The military will be reprimanded publically for overspending and a big to do made out of a bill designed to curb spending on defense projects; all the while Acorn and their subsidiaries will receive 4 billion dollars of federal monies to do whatever it is they do.

The Pentagon is like any other government bureaucracy; they will spend money like it’s going out of style and they will do it wastefully. Obama needs to have a few more ceremonies on the South Lawn, signing more bills that will curb spending on domestic programs. But let’s not go crazy now, Obama is who he is, and the democrats are who they are; signing the Weapons Acquisition Bill into law and making a public statement about the wasteful spending of the Pentagon is about as conservative as President Obama will ever be.

Obama has already requested that Defense Secretary Gates cut the defense budget by nixing weapons including F-22 fighter’s that cost more than originally expected. I’m glad for Obama that he at least has the Pentagon and defense spending to fall back on when he starts to catch heat about spending.
