I’ve never particularly thought David Letterman was funny. He just has never appealed to me. I’ve always thought his jokes seemed more mean-spirited than funny, regardless of what he’s joking about. He also seemed to me to think his own jokes were much funnier than anyone else thinks they are.
All of that seems to have gotten a lot worse lately. Or maybe its just irritating me more. He just seems like an old man who makes jokes in the vein of an adolescent bully on the playground.
He’s been on a roll about Sarah Palin since her recent trip to New York in support of causes related to finding a cure for autism and honoring William Seward, the former secretary of state who bought Alaska from Russia. First, he had her in his Top 10 list. Among the ‘jokes’ in his list was a comment about her ‘Slutty Flight Attendant look’. He’s calling the Governor of Alaska a ’slut’? That’s pretty low-down and low-class, not to mention misogynistic.
It gets worse though. In the monologue, he goes after Palin’s 14-year-old daughter, Willow Palin. He ‘jokes’ about her going to the Yankees’ game with her mother and Rudy and Judith Giuliani. His joke has to do with Sarah Palin’s minor daughter getting ‘raped’ and ‘knocked up’ by Alex Rodriguez during the game.
The leftists have had no problem attacking Sarah Palin’s entire family (including her very young children) since she came into the national spotlight. Can you imagine if the media went after Sasha or Malia Obama the same way they have gone after all of Palin’s children? They have reported lies as fact about Palin, her husband and all of her children. Its unprecedented, irresponsible, mean-spirited and disgusting.
I really don’t think David Letterman has a lot of room to talk about ‘class’. This is a guy who ‘knocked-up’ his long time live in girlfriend when he was in his 60s and waited about six or eight years to marry the mother of his son. He caters to the hollywood elite and would never bite the hands that feed him. But he has no qualms about going after Governors who have worked their way up the latter of success. I guess strong women who are also attractive are pretty threatening to the liberal left.

Why does eveyone have their panties in a wad about something as innocuous as a David Letterman joke? This kind of mental constipation is ridculous. this is what comedians do. And for God’s sake, it was midnight! How many 14 year olds should be watching Letterman anyway?

In reply to NHVoter and alot of others, would it matter if he was referring to Bristol and not Willow. I really don’t feel that attacking
an 18 year old GIRL is any better or more acceptable than attacking a 14 year old GIRL.

It is absolutely absurd that anyone on here can even suggest that what David Letterman did was not a big deal and that most are overreacting..it might not have started out as a big deal, what with it being ’something as innocuous as a David Letterman joke’, but the truth of the matter is, most people have by now heard about the joke and formed some sort of opinion about it. It is perfectly reasonable that Sarah Palin and her family be outraged by the comment. Who WOULDN’T be insulted if their daughter was crudely made a joke of on national televison? Don’t dismiss it as ‘just a joke’ or something that should only be expected from someone like Letterman. It can be expected- but it should NOT just be taken lightly.
As to all the people who dismissed the tasteless (not to mention not even funny) joke or even supported it, you are obviously looking for any reason to bash Sarah Palin. You are narrow-minded, ignorant, trash. I have no problem with liberals disagreeing with her views, but to explicitly insult her is representative of the disgustingly vast mob of liberals that hop on the wagon and decide to form narrow-minded views about strong women like Sarah Palin.
I think the video was downright disgusting. Letterman should face the consequences of what he let crawl out of his mouth.
I 100% agree with everyone who mentioned the possibility of if something like this had been said about one of the Obama daughters-but wait, it wouldn’t have happened, because the media is outrageously liberally biased.
