A video is making the rounds on the internet. Its being called the Kate Gosselin water video because in it Kate denies her daughter water. Nine-year-old Mady is complaining of being thirsty, take takes a swig of water in front of her and doesn’t give the child any water. You can see the video below.
I have only watched the reality show ‘Jon & Kate Plus 8′ a few times. I just don’t watch that much television, plus it comes on at a time and on a channel I rarely am watching. Its not a show I seek out. Its oddly entertaining, but watching these two try to parent eight kids makes me tired. That’s probably because I’m projecting onto them how responsible I’d feel as the parent of that many children. It doesn’t seem to be stressing them out to that extent, but I could be wrong. I’m just a distant observer.
As can be expected, Jon and Kate Gosselin have become fodder for tabloids. There are rumors of Jon cheating on Kate and Kate cheating on Jon. Everyone analyzes parenting styles, their relationship, their looks. Every new Kate Gosselin hair style or pedicure gets a work over on the celebrity blogs and tabloids.
Recently, I’ve felt kind of sorry for the couple at the core of this reality show. The rumors seem to have gotten nastier and more frequent. Of course, the result of that is that Jon and Kate have become more famous and probably, therefore, richer. BUT, still, its rough. On the other hand, what did they expect when they signed up to do a reality show on their family life.
One of the consistent rumors about Kate is that she’s a b*tch. Is she? I don’t know. She has seemed very strict with the children and a bit of a shrill whenever I’ve seen the show. But I’m no expert on ‘Jon & Kate Plus 8′.
Then I saw this video. The Gosselin water video is really pretty appalling. In this video of a taping of their show, Kate is sitting with all her little children. Mady (or is it Maddy?), is complaining about being thirsty. She says she’s not had a drink all day. Kate asks the film crew for a bottle of water. Ah, I think, she’s getting her child a drink of water. But no, she takes a big swig of the water and then sits it on the floor. Maddy says ‘You’re so mean, you waved it right in front of my face.’ And she did. For a second it seems like Kate is going to let Mady have a drink. She’s looking around at the film crew while absent-mindedly reaching for the water bottle. She picks it up and starts to hand it to Mady. Then, she says, nope, its time to start filming …. too bad kid. She actually denies her daughter water in favor of filming their reality show.
Makes you kind of wonder how much of these kid’s lives is about filming and how often they have to wait for water, food, play, or whatever because its time to film.
Maybe Jon and Kate deserve the bad press they are getting after all.

I’ve never watched the show…*reality* shows annoy the hell out of me,since they’re not actually real.
That said, I am appalled by the video. I realize some *parents* in the real world do much worse to their children, but that doesn’t excuse Kate’s behavior. I find it sadistic. Ever been thirsty and unable to have a drink? It’s not pleasant.

That was horrible. How could she do that knowing that her daughter was thirsty and then drink it herself… right in front of Maddy. She could have let her have a drink. HOW COLD HEARTED.

I USED to be a fan of the show and the parents, however I began to notice a few things that bothered me.
One: how horrible and unappreciated Jon was treated by Kate.
Two: how many of the show’s regular “side characters” like Aunt Jodi and Jenny (the babysitter) mysteriously disappeared without a trace.
Three: How ridiculously obvious it was that they were advertising various products in their home (thus getting richer). For example, if the kids played with Play-Doh, the toy’s brand was always in clear sight; Jon constantly did pathetic, half-a*s spiels about Progressive insurance and the cameras would turn to the website which just ‘happened’ to be on their computer screen… the examples go on and on.
Apparently I wasn’t the only one who noticed these oddities. I read an article online about how, during Kate’s pregnancy, her father’s church donated cribs but Kate turned them away because they were used and did not match. Someone also DONATED a van, but Kate denied it because she hated the color. On a website that Jon used to run (it has been shut down), he stated that once the media found out about his sextuplets, they would be so rich that he would never have to work again… pathetically enough, that is now true. They now live in a 1.3 million dollar house, do not work, and go wherever they please free of charge. How are their children supposed to learn that people must work for what they want in life if everything has been handed to them since the day they were born? As far as they’re concerned, every kid is on TV and magazines and gets to meet Oprah and famous basketball teams. They live in a fantasy TV Land and are in for a very rude awakening of what the real world is like. Oh and the deal about Aunt Jodi and Jenny: well, since they were becoming well-liked regulars on the show, TLC wanted to compensate them financially but Kate threw a tantrum. She did not want anyone but herself and Jon to be paid for being on the show, in fact, she didn’t want ANYONE else getting attention so she kicked them both off the show. This woman is insane. I started off liking her but the fame has gotten to her head and turned her into a selfish, gold-digging monster. I no longer watch the show because I REFUSE TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE SHOW’S RATINGS AND THUS, HER PAYCHECK. If you agree with me, I highly encourage you to do the same.

Good lord move on, she said they could all have a drink in a minute. Find someone else to tear apart.

I watched this show few counted times, actually I never liked any type of reality shows. I am not a ex-fan. I am just pointing at the fact of that woman behavior in front of her OWN kids… Does she pretend to be a Diva? Gosh… whatever if the girl is trying to demand attention, still is her daughter, that “mother” doesn’t lose anything just for giving the water to the girl. But for her the camera was most important…
Let me remind that we are living in a country where you can do a crazy thing and you get paid… highly. If we would know that there are other families in other parts of the world where they have to raise their kids in worse situations, and still, they love their kids giving their own life for them.
Better to think before getting married and having kids…but specially having kids. Nobody have got a master for parenting, but in matter of heart and mind, you don’t question any situation but you give love to your husband or wife and your kids.

Although I don’t find this video as appalling as some people do (a little nasty, perhaps, but not necessarily abusive), I think Kate Gosselin has proven herself time and time again to be nothing but a shrill, bossy, fame-hungry gold-digger. Absolutely disgusting. Jon’s not as abrasive, but just about anyone looks like a laid-back fluffy bunny next to this woman.

Are ya’ll seriously dense?
That child complains constantly. She’s obviously not dying of thirst, and she can be patient until they’re done filiming ONE segment of the film. Kate didn’t deny her child a drink, she told her to wait a minute. Yes, she did have a drink of her OWN beverage in the meantime….but the difference is that, as a mother, she can take a quick sip and be done with it. Where a child would sit there with it for as long as it took to finish off the bottle.
Teaching your child patience (when it’s obvious that you’re not doing them any harm (Mady wasn’t passing out, she was whining)) isn’t wrong. telling them to wait isn’t wrong.
If you think thats abuse…you’ve got a seriously skewed perception of the world.
