Is the much discussed Perez Hilton, Will.i.am fight a hate crime? Hilton is accusing Will.i.am of assault following an altercation between the two following the MuchMusic Awards in Toronto last night. Read about it and see photos and the video below.
Perez Hilton, Will.i.am
Perez Hilton’s real name is Mario Lavandeira. He’s best known as a flamboyant celebrity blogger who gets into dramatic situations on a fairly regular basis. Will.i.am is a singer in the band Black Eyed Peas. Apparently, both were at the MuchMusic Awards in Toronto last night. Hilton as a presenter and Will.i.am as a performer.
After the awards, Hilton ran into members of the Black Eyed Peas at a club. Hilton got into a verbal argument with Fergie, singer for the band, who apparently was not happy about some things Hilton had written about her on his blog. Will.i.am apparently came to her defense and told Hilton to leave them alone and not to write about Fergie or the band on his blog any more. Hilton responded to this by calling Will.i.am a ‘faggot’.
When Hilton left the club, he claims he was assaulted by Will.i.am or the band manager Liborio “Polo” Molina. He immediately tweeted his distress and apparently called the police to file a complaint.
I was assaulted by Will.I.Am of the Black Eyed Peas and his security guards. I am bleeding. Please, I need to file a police report. No joke.
From the other side of things, Will.i.am claimed that it was a fan that hit Hilton. He responded to Hilton’s tweets with his own tweet. Meanwhile, Molina turned himself in to the Toronto Police Constable Tony Vella and has been charged with assaulting Hilton. He’ll be in court on August 5, 2009.
Confused yet? Well, Hilton did what he does and has done a ranting, crying, vulgar video to explain his side of things. Will.i.am did his own video which you can view below.
As most of us know and as a broad generalization, women tend to fight with our mouths and men tend to fight with their fists. Apparently, Hilton was fighting nasty with his mouth and Will.i.am (or Polo Molina) decided to settle it with their fist. The question is, why is one charged with assault while the other isn’t? Wouldn’t calling someone a ‘faggot’ and harassing them in club also be considered assault? Is it only assault with its the one who ends the argument with a bop upside the head? Honestly, Hilton doesn’t look worse for the wear, except for the big ol’ pout on his face. Okay, he’s got a knock on his head, but when did that ever hurt anyone? Especially if its successful in shutting them up and ending the back and forth of a verbal argument. Its not like Molina or Will.i.am or the fan beat him to a pulp. They knocked him upside the head and then went on about their business.
Its too bad that a good old fashioned fist fight can’t settle disagreements anymore and result in assault charges and court time. No wonder the courts are overwhelmed with cases these days.
Of course, Hilton had to make a big drama out of the whole thing. I guess it surprised him to find out that he was running his mouth at a man rather than verbally beating up on a woman. When he verbally attacked Carrie Prejean, he accused her of hating. That left me to wonder if he is guilty of a ‘hate crime’ for calling Will.i.am a ‘faggot’ or if the person who assaulted him is guilty of a hate crime for assaulting a … gay rights activist? Is the whole Perez Hilton, Will.i.am fight just one big hate crime? This whole thing could get very confusing.
Interestingly, Perez’ self promotion is irritating to many people. There’s a Facebook page for people of the LGBT community that is specifically about the fact that Hilton doesn’t speak for the whole gay community.

Hate crime? Hardly. More like an arrogant, snot-nosed, cream-puffed a-hole just got his butt kicked after running his big mouth a bit too much.
And does anyone besides me find it amusing that Perez Hilton would try to call anybody a “faggot” as a form of insult, given that he’s one of the biggest butt pirates in Hollywood?

I think this entire thing is childish. Will I Am talks about freedom of speech/opinion then gets all offended by what was said?? As I see it both parties should just ignore the other, say what you are free to say and move on. They make way too much money to make this much trouble! GET OVER IT!!

Well, they both live in America (though they were in Canada at the time)and its no surprise that they act according to the American way.
Anyway, freedom of speech in America is a huge thing to them. It basically means that you can say whatever the f you want, BUT you cannot touch the other person.
So a person can say the most vile thing, disrespecting and degrading words, but its the other person who HITS that gets into trouble.
that’s freedom of speech for you.

In a perfect world, you have the right to say whatever you want whenever you want because of the 1st Amendment. In a perfect world violence is not the answer. In the real world where I live, you watch your mouth. You have the right to say whatever you want as long as you are willing to back it up and accept all the responsibility for your words. So Perez had all the right to say whatever but he needs to accept what he said and move on.
