Michael Jackson died today in Los Angeles. The King of Pop was rushed to the hospital following an apparent cardiac arrest at his home and was reported dead about 3 p.m. P.T. Michael Jackson, dead at 50. Read about it below and see photos and a video of the Jackson 5 Ed Sullivan Show video from 1970.
News broke this afternoon that legendary singer Michael Jackson was rushed to the hospital from his Holmby Hills, California home at about 12.12 p.m. Pacific Time. As crowds started gathering outside of the hospital, news started leaking out that he was in a coma and then that he was dead. About 3 p.m. Pacific Time it was finally officially confirmed that Michael Jackson had died on June 25, 2009.
Michael Jackson was married twice. His first marriage was to Lisa Marie Presley, daughter of the legendary King of Rock n Roll, Elvis Presley. It was rumored that the marriage was one of convenience to give Jackson the appearance of a family life. The marriage was short lived and the two divorced just 16 months after their marriage. Jackson then married his dermatologist’s assistant, Debbie Rowe. Jackson and Rowe were married from 1996 until 1999. They had two children, Prince Michael Jackson, Jr. and Paris Michael Katherine. Michael had another child, Prince ‘Blanket’ Michael Jackson, II.
Michael Jackson is survived by his three children: Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr., Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince ‘Blanket’ Michael Jackson II.
Michael Jackson was a child star as the lead singer of the popular family singing group, the Jackson 5. As he grew older, he went out on his own and achieved legendary status and an international superstar with hits like, Beat it, Thriller, Man in the Mirror and Billie Jean. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, won 13 Grammy Awards and sold more than 750 million singles and albums worldwide. He was reported to have been planning a comeback by touring England this summer. However, he had just recently announced that he would delay that tour until next summer. The reason given for delaying the This Is It concert tour was that he needed to work on perfecting the performance. In fact, he was rehearsing the show just last night, and its reported that he didn’t show any signs of distress during the rehearsal.
In recent years, Jackson’s music career took a backseat to the limelight he received for his increasingly bizarre behavior. There has been a circus-like atmosphere around most of his appearances as there is outside of the hospital where he was pronounced dead this afternoon.
There are currently rumors that there will be an investigation into the cause of his death, although that hasn’t been confirmed. The story is still unfolding. What we do know is that Michael Jackson died suddenly this afternoon at 50 years of age. Below is a the Jackson 5 Ed Sullivan Show video from their appearance on that show in 1970. This was the beginning of Jackson’s phenomenal career.
