The federal government cash for clunkers suspended rumors have turned out to be true. The transportation department is ending the program as money is running out, already. Read about it below and see a video.
It didn’t take long for the ‘Cash for Clunkers’ program to run through the $1 billion set aside for the program. The program has been quite popular, which is understandable. It was set up to provide customers with incentives to trade-in their old, gas guzzling cars for new, more eco-friendly cars. One of the new federal government’s efforts to turn the American auto industry into something resembling the smaller, European cars that Al Gore and the environmentalist think we should all be driving. No more evil SUVs and big Ford trucks. You could drive around in a much more expensive, smaller and kind of dweeb-ish looking car of the future. For the sake of putting more money in the environmentalists pockets, I mean for the sake of saving the environment.
The program offered up to $4,500 for trade ins on the smaller, more environmentally friendly cars. The Department of Transportation notified lawmakers that the program would end at midnight on Thursday, July 30, 2009.
The program that is technically called the ‘Car Allowance Rebate System’ ran through $1 Billion in federal funds (our tax dollars) in just six days. Democrats are proclaiming this as a huge success and a testament to the popularity of the program. Well, frankly, who wouldn’t trade in for a new car at the government’s expensive should the opportunity be presented. There have been about 30,000 Cash for Clunkers requests turned in to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. So there ya go. Going, going, gone. Your tax dollars are in garages across the country, a billion dollars of it in a week.
People who qualified were given rebates that they were then to take to dealers to get their new cars. At this point, part of the problem is that many dealers haven’t been reimbursed for the trade-ins they have taken. It seems the rebates haven’t been paid. Many feel they will never be paid, which makes me wonder where the money actually went. But since the government owns Chrysler and GM, I suppose it doesn’t matter that much.
As of midnight tonight, the Cash for Clunkers program is suspended. If that program was so grossly mismanaged, under funded and expensive, can you imagine what government run health care will be like? Just hope you don’t need your appendix out while the government tries to sort through the paperwork to see if you qualify and if there are enough funds left in THAT program.

Another car dealer scam… this time directly against the congress as a group (at the taxpayers expense -again… what idiots we have distrubuting our tax dollars). I mean how easy could it actually be… ‘Here’s a Billion boys come and get it!… you are the only ones that have access - not the actual working class qualified needy tax payers’. It took less than 4 days (actually 2-3 days) for the program to be closed because of the open ended exposure the government has to the scum of the earth car businesses scrambling their efforts at the booty. It is a shark fast amoung shark fasts… The vidoe links in the google search clearly identifies that the folks who “got the benefit clearly wasn’t the people in the market for a new car to replace a ‘kluncker’”. 3 days!! to clean out 1.2 billion… and CLOG the system to get in line to collect… I really hope the lawyers step up here with class action against the GOV in order to stand up for the ‘qualified remaining tax payers’ who actually paid for this screw up and could not get in line fast enough to turn in their qualified Clunker. WHAT A RIP OFF. WHAT ABOUT THE PEOPLE PAYING FOR THIS ABUSE… WHERE ARE THE REAL ATOURNEYS WHO ACTUALLY WATCHOUT FOR THE TAX PAYING PUBLIC. WHERE IS OUR GOVERNMENTS HEADS??- that last one is obvious and retorical…

Your statements are not accurate. You said:
“People who qualified were given rebates that they were then to take to dealers to get their new cars.”
This is untrue (5th bullet point on http://www.cars.gov, which you linked to).
As for the public option, it will be just fine, as long as intelligent people are in charge. In any human endeavor, mistakes may occur. What’s important is how one handles the situation once it is established that things are not working as planned.
Have s blessed day!

The cash for clunkers program is dead, for now. But if you have a trade-in, deals still exist. While most people do not know the tactics, it is fairly easy to get dealers to compete for your business. After you get dealers to compete, you must be vigilant. This includes mapping out the deal, even at the dealership. The ex-car salesman recoomends brining a notebook into the dealership and writing out all the numbers (don’t worry if you feel rushed). This process does not have to be painful, see: http://tinyurl.com/laub3m

I took my SUV to the Ford of Ocala dealership in Florida for the cash for clunkers program on July 1, 2009. I explained honestly to them that I knew I had lapsed in my car insurance. I wasn’t sure if it would qualify for the CFC Program. It did qualify for everything else. They assured me that they would get it approved. They got me into a 2009 Ford Focus which I just had to return today after having it for 1 month b/c, the dealership just checked my car insurance coverage and saw that I had a lapse of coverage. After they told me I was approved for everything, they took the car back today 7/31/09. I even spoke with the approving lender and got everything finalized and registered to my name. I’m a hard working single mother taking care of two children on my own. I’m trying my best to live within my means. I am hurt and distraught and simple so discouraged that someone would do this to me. This is why I’m trying to trade in my truck. I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT AFFORD IT ANYMORE. The engine is blowing white smoke. I just don’t know what to do?
