Well this is takes some guts, a man brandishing an AR-15 assault rifle joined about a dozen protesters at an event that President Obama was speaking at. The event was in Arizona where the gun laws are open carry, meaning if you have a permit you can carry a gun if it is in plain sight.
Now the MSM is spinning this as just another of the many incidents in which people are beginning to bring guns to Obama events. I see it a different way; just as the man who had the assault rifle at the Obama event said, “Use your rights or lose your rights”. From Breitbart:
The man with the rifle declined to be identified but told The Arizona Republic that he was carrying the assault weapon because he could. “In Arizona, I still have some freedoms,” he said.
Phoenix police officers said that no one was arrested because no one broke the law. The very fact that a man, one of about a dozen, brought a gun near where the President was speaking, sparked controversy on both sides. On the one hand gun rights advocates said that they were taking advantage of their 2nd amendment rights. On the other, there were some who said the potential for something terrible to happen rises if people start bringing guns to Presidential events.
It’s probably been blown out of proportion as usual by the media; the reason I say that is nobody was arrested or hurt, and there was plenty of security around, both local and federal that could have arrested the man if he had meant the President harm.
Seems like all of a sudden the left thinks Obama is in danger. Why? Because honest Americans are sick of his socialist agenda and are standing up for their rights guaranteed under the Constitution? One of those rights is to be able to petition their government for a redress of grievances. Another is to keep and bear arms.
Both of these rights were being executed freely under our Constitution. It doesn’t matter that President Obama was in the area, the Constitution hasn’t changed; yet.
Oh and before they play the race card like they are apt to do, it was a black man who brought the assault rifle.
Man Brings Assault Weapon to Obama Event

The AR-15 is NOT an “assault rifle.” The M-16 is an assault rifle, as it is capable of full-auto fire. It is not available in the United States except under extremely limited conditions. The AR-15 is a semi-automatic only rifle, which looks like the M-16. I know, if it looks “evil” then it is an “assault weapon….”

dan z, I’m just telling you what the media is saying. You know they’ll use this incident to push the idea of right wing crazies out there.

There are crazies everywhere, and with every political bend. But anyone who shows up anywhere in public brandishing a semi-automatic rifle immediately has my attention as a possible danger, political rally or no.
Guns were made for offensive tactical assault and to turn defense into offense. There is no other function for a gun than to threaten, harm, or kill. It is not like duct tape. It doesn’t have 1001 uses. When you need to make a hole in something other than a person, you use a drill. The hole is better for it. When you need to drive a nail into wood, you use a hammer, not the butt of a rifle. The rifle is better off for it, as is the structure-in-progress.
Like the devil himself, guns can never create, only destroy.
As American citizens, it is our right to choose whether or not to carry destruction with us, openly, even if it intimidates those around us. But it is also our right to choose to carry the devil. So help me keep the government out of the bedroom and I’ll help you keep the government out of the munitions locker.
PS: You are my fellow Americans and though I disagree with you about gun control, I still see you as my bretheren. And I would truly pick up a gun to defend you (and I) from invaders on our home soil. Or zombies.

MCS - What you don’t get is the fact that citizen’s who are packing are exercising their second amendment rights and guaranteeing all their other constitutional rights.

That’s right Hondo! And that’s one of the constitutional rights, passed down from our Founding Fathers, to give us and edge up on anyone (or form of government) that attempts to take control of our country. The liberals don’t understand that. Its not a threat, it’s exercising the rights we have as American citizens to ensure that the federal government will not overstep its bounds and impose their will on the People. The People are the government, not the bureaucrats in Washington - they need to understand that and apparently don’t understand it at this particular point in time.

BTW - that’s what separates us (as American citizens) from so many other countries in which the citizens don’t have the right to bear arms. For instance, H1tler didn’t have to face an armed public. Its what keeps us from being subjected to coups every few years and pretty much what guarantees a peaceful transfer of power when the people vote for one.
