Now why would Jane Fonda boycott the Toronto Film Festival, a perfectly good liberal shindig where filmmakers and actors get together and tell each other how great they are? Well it seems that Israel is being honored just a bit much for Hanoi Jane, so she and Danny Glover along with Eve Ensler are boycotting the festival.

A letter was written to Toronto Film Festival officials complaining that Tel-Aviv is built on “thousands of destroyed Palestinian villages”. You see, a movie in the festival called “City to City” honors Tel-Aviv’s 100th anniversary. The film also spotlights 10 other Israeli cities.

So naturally Danny Glover and Jane Fonda boycott the Toronto Film Festival. It’s the natural course of things; Israel is honored in a leftist environment so crazy leftists boycott the proceedings.

Jane Fonda, despite at one time being a very beautiful woman and decent actress, is at times most notably known for her alter ego of Hanoi Jane. Fonda once decided to protest the Vietnam War by providing aid and comfort to our enemies by planting herself on a Viet Cong anti-aircraft gun. Good thing for her it wasn’t a target at the time.

Rabbi Marvin Hier, a two time Academy Award Winner for documentary films, is criticizing Jane Fonda and the others who signed the letter saying that anyone who would sign the letter would advocate for the complete destruction of Israel. From Haaretz:

“By calling into question the legitimacy of Tel Aviv, they are supporting a one-state solution, which means the destruction of the State of Israel. I applaud the organizers of the festival for celebrating on the 100th anniversary of Tel Aviv. If every city in the Middle East would be as culturally diverse, as open to freedom of expression as Tel Aviv is, then peace would long have come to the Middle East.”

So if you had planned on attending the Toronto Film Festival in hopes of seeing Hanoi Jane I’m sorry, she won’t be there. At 72 years old, Jane Fonda boycotting the Toronto Film Festival shows that she plans on being remembered more for her political activism than for performances like “On Golden Pond”.
