William Maser of Georges Township, Pennsylvania accidentally hit his neighbors house with a cannon ball. That doesn’t happen much these days! Read about it below.
When’s the last time you heard of someone’s house being fired upon with a cannon. Yes, I know, it’s been a while. But it happened just last week in Georges Township, Pennsylvania. It seems that 54-year-old William Maser is a Civil War buff who has been retooling Civil War cannons for about 30 years. Apparently, he was working on one last week when it fired and accidentally hit his neighbors house. That’s a big whoops.
When Maser was firing the gun on Wednesday, the cannonball ricocheted, hitting a home about 400 yards from where he was firing. The 2-pound cannon ball went through a window, hit a medicine cabinet, slammed through a wall and eventually landing in a closet.
No one was hurt in the incident.
Maser and the unidentified neighbor live in in Georges Township which is outside of Uniontown, Pennsylvania, about 35 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.
He has been charged with reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.
Maser says he’s sorry about the incident and won’t fire his cannons on his property anymore. I would think that firing guns (much less cannons) on property that is in anyway close enough to hit neighbors or, in this incident, neighbor’s houses, is an enormously bad idea. To say the least! Hopefully, lesson learned.
