Shifting U.S. policy towards North Korea, Obama is ready to engage the rogue nation in direct talks; the aim is to bring the communist country and burgeoning nuclear Nation back to the six party nuclear talks. North Korea pulled out of the talks in April.

US North Korea direct talks

As the United States prepares to coax Pyongyang into direct talks, I begin to wonder what exactly the Obama Administration might promise or give up to North Korea to bring them back to the table. Clinton Administration anyone?

Hillary Clinton is due to meet with her counterparts from Russia, China, Japan, and South Korea this month at the U.N.; there they will decide for sure the strategy going forward with the wacko Kim Jong Il.

North Korea has us right where they want us. An invitation has been issued to special envoy Stephen Bosworth to visit Pyongyang. A date and time has not been confirmed, but make no mistake, it will happen. The other nations involved in the original six party talks have given their blessing for the bilateral meeting to take place. Can anyone say, passing the buck?

The change in US policy towards North Korea shows a willingness to give in to the hapless state. Kim Jong Il has nothing at his disposal for leverage except his utter madness. We give in, we give him much more to use and bargain with.

The United Nations “condemned” North Korea earlier this year for its nuclear tests. This prompted the communist third world nation to pull out of the six party talks. The United Nations for the most part has remained silent on the matter. As usual.

The shift in U.S. policy towards North Korea is sobering; Kim Jong Il can’t be reasoned with, he won’t be “talked down”. He will not give up on his nuclear ambitions just because Obama asks him nicely. The naivety of liberals is breathtaking, either naivety or utter disregard for National security. Both dangerous positions to take.
